Forster's Wharf St. Distillery has pulled off an extraordinary clutch of medals after only one year of operation, winning two Double Gold and three Silver medals at the world-renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2023. The competition is the largest of its kind, with almost 6,000 entrants from all over the world. Wharf St. Distillery entered all five of its hand-crafted gins into the competition.
Head Distiller and Co-founder Jesse Roche expressed his excitement, saying, “Of course, we entered with the hopes of bagging a medal. We were confident our gins were top-notch, but you never know what you're up against. The field is a collection of the world's best, and we've only been doing this for just over a year - so obviously, we are stoked!".
Wharf St's Citrus Gin and Pigface Gin were awarded Double Gold, a prestigious accolade for spirits demonstrating exceptional quality and taste. Our Citrus Gin placed Top 3 meaning they will deuce it out for Best in Class in Las Vegas in June. The Citrus Gin is a smooth and smashable modern gin, while the Pigface Gin is a blushing pink gin with a subtle sweetness.
Silver medals went to their Navy, Oyster Shell and Barrel Aged gins.
Co-founder Tim Cooke shared his insights, "We set out to craft a range of gins that are smooth, smashable, and immediately recognisable by how they smell and taste. We work hard to make the tastiest possible spirit that will be your daily go-to come gin o'clock."
The distillery has been operational for only 16 months, welcoming patrons into the purpose-built venue to sample the five gins and offering an outstanding food and drink experience. "We have an incredible team, all pushing hard to realise our dream of creating a spirit brand to be proud of - the Spirit of Forster," said Co-founder Peta Cooke. The distillery is open seven days a week in the mid-North coastal town of Forster, NSW.
The Wharf St. Distillery team's success at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a testament to the process, quality and craftsmanship of their gins. “We are so inspired by the region and coastal lifestyle. Capturing the essence of the surf, beach and lake informs our craft and drives our creativity.” Tim said.
Wharf St. Distillery is now preparing to head off to the "Oscars" of the booze industry in Las Vegas in June, hoping to bring home the coveted "Best in Class" accolade with their Double Gold medal winners.
